LIBERTY HILL, Texas (KXAN) — A school crossing guard in Liberty Hill is calling for Williamson County to make safety improvements on the road she oversees.
Crossing guard Charlene Conner helps children safely cross the intersection of Santa Rita Boulevard and Mirabeau Way near Santa Rita Elementary. In her petition, she calls for implementing stop signs at the intersection, citing heavy traffic and safety concerns.
“It’s a much busier intersection, foot traffic and car traffic, because there’s cars turning into the drop off and out of the drop off, as well as school busses,” Conner said. “The foot traffic and car traffic is significantly more this year than last year.”
Santa Rita Elementary Principal Kendell Luedtke echoes Conner’s concerns, noting that Liberty Hill’s growth since the school opened in 2020 has contributed to increasingly busy roads.
“Year one to year five — it’s looked completely different,” Luedtke said. “It makes it really hard when there’s one way in and one way out, and there’s just that Santa Rita Boulevard that all the traffic has to utilize.”
Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long, who’s precinct consists of Liberty Hill, said the county is working on several road projects to keep up with the growth.
“It’s a fast-growing area, and the city of Liberty Hill is actually much smaller than the area of the school district, and so we are working diligently on some safety improvements to some of the bigger roadways around that area as well,” Long said.
As of October 2025, there are 11 ongoing road bond projects in Liberty Hill:
- Liberty Hill (SH 29) Bypass
- Ronald Reagan Boulevard Widening
- Liberty Hill Bypass West
- Liberty Hill Bypass East
- CR 214 Extension
- CR 258
- Seward Junction North Loop – East
- Seward Junction North Loop – West
- Bagdad Road/CR 279
- Ronald Reagan Boulevard Widening, Segment C1
- CR 201 (Road and Bridge Funded)
“We have a long-range transportation plan that we are quickly implementing, and our voters have approved voter approved bonds,” Long said.
Long emphasized that when people have road concerns in her precinct, they should reach out so her team can analyze the issue and determine how best to address it.
“We take those very seriously, and so we will conduct what’s called a traffic study,” Long said. “We want to make sure is as safe as possible — especially for our kiddos — as they’re going back and forth to school.”
