AUSTIN (KXAN) — The city of Buda can now preserve its historic Buda Train Depot as it will soon be relocated and restored downtown.
Overall, this project is a partnership with city and the Buda Economic Development (EDC), according to the city. The Buda EDC will fund the first phase of the project, “which includes relocating the depot and beginning design work for surrounding space.” Restoration of the depot will begin in 2026.
“This project became possible thanks to the generosity of the Bryant family, who have cared for the depot since the 1990s,” the city said in the release. “With the family now selling their property, the depot was at risk of being sold or destroyed.”
That is when Pam and Robert Bryant donated the building to the city, which helped bring the project to fruition, according to the city.
According to the city, the depot will return to the “newly redesigned section of the Downtown Greenbelt.” The greenbelt is located at 319 Main Street in Buda.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring a piece of our history home and
reimagine it as part of Buda’s future,” Lee Urbanovsky, mayor of Buda, said in the release. “The Train Depot will be a centerpiece in downtown for community gathering and connection.”
The city plans to move the depot in early November, which “will require temporary street closures and detours in the downtown area.” When that time comes, the city said it will share route closures, traffic impacts, construction timelines and more.
