AUSTIN (KXAN) — After Saturday’s 29-21 loss to unranked Florida, it’s now Texas that is out of the Associated Press Top 25 rankings.
The Longhorns, ranked No. 9 going into the game, fell into the others receiving votes category behind Cincinnati in the latest poll released Sunday after dropping to 3-2 overall. No. 16 Notre Dame and No. 25 Florida State are the only 2-loss teams currently in the rankings.
Penn State, ranked No. 7 going into its game against UCLA, lost to the previously winless Bruins 42-37 and dropped out of the rankings a spot behind Texas.
The home win for the Gators didn’t impress voters at all; they didn’t receive a single vote after improving to 2-3 behind a great performance by quarterback DJ Lagway.
Ohio State remained the top-ranked team, followed by Miami, Oregon, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. Miami and Oregon swapped spots after the Hurricanes beat rivals Florida State 28-22 and the Ducks were idle. The Aggies moved into the top five following a 31-9 win over Mississippi State.
Oklahoma, Texas’ opponent in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday, dropped a spot to No. 6 despite a 44-0 win over Kent State. Sooners head coach Brent Venables told reporters after the win that he’s “assuming” quarterback John Mateer won’t be ready for the game after undergoing surgery on his throwing hand earlier in the season. Michael Hawkins Jr. will more than likely be the starter in the Cotton Bowl at the State Fair of Texas.
Indiana, Alabama, Texas Tech and Georgia rounded out the top 10.
