AUSTIN (KXAN) – The FIFA World Cup is feeling more real for those involved as Summer 2026 inches closer. The United States Men’s National Team has released its roster for October’s training camp and international friendlies, one of which will take place at Q2 Stadium in Austin.
Mauricio Pochettino’s squad hits Austin on Oct. 10 to take on Ecuador at 7:30 p.m., and the build-up is starting to fire him up.
“The moment that you are closer to the competition and the World Cup, I think you…really start to live,” Pochettino said.
The World Cup is officially set to begin June 11, and the USMNT is hoping for a different result than in 2022. The US finished second in its group behind England, posting a 3-1 record, but was later eliminated in the knockout stage by the Netherlands, 3-1.
Now the US looks forward to having homefield advantage in this year’s competition.
VERDE LIGHTS: It’s back for another season! Tune in at 11 a.m. Saturdays on CW Austin and KXAN throughout the season.
“I think that [when we] arrive the fans will be there and are going to support us,” Pochettino said. “I have no doubt that they’re going to be with us.”
The roster includes star forward Christian Pulisic, who chose to sit out of the team’s CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament appearance this summer to rest following his club season with AC Milan. With four games this month and in early November, the team will have ample opportunity to play together before the start of the World Cup.
“The connections in between the players, the dynamic that we want to use on the field, but off the field also, that is important,” Pochettino said on selecting this year’s roster.
