The Texas Veteran’s Commission (TVC) gave checks to nonprofits and local governments towards services like housing, service dog programs, mental health, transportation and family support services, the Texas Veteran’s Commission said in a Friday press conference.

“Our veterans and their families have done a lot for our country and our state and this is a way the state can pay them back,” said Tom Palladino, the executive director of the Texas Veterans. “These services from these organizations they provide a network of resources out there to meet our veterans needs.”

This comes after the TVC in May approved more than $46 million to be distributed across 175 organizations across Texas, a move that will reportedly impact nearly 40,000 people across the state. That number isn’t limited to just veterans, but their dependents and surviving spouses as well, the TVC said in a Wednesday news release.

Since 2009, over $359 million across more than 1,600 grants have been distributed through the TVC’s Fund for Veteran’s Assistance program according to the release.

Central Texas organizations receiving grants during the current 2025-2026 cycle include:

  • Austin Area Urban League: $350,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes
  • Austin Dog Alliance: $355,000 for Service Dog Pilot Program
  • Boys & Girls Club of Central Texas: $350,000 for support services
  • Caritas of Austin: $75,000 for financial assistance
  • Travis County: $50,000 for Veterans Treatment Court
  • Catholic Charities of Central Texas: $150,000 for financial assistance
  • Cen-Tex Alcoholic Rehabilitation Center, Inc: $330,000 for clinical counseling
  • Ride on Center for Kids (ROCK) Georgetown: $110,000 for clinical counseling
  • The Salvation Army – Waco: $250,000 for financial assistance
  • Williamson County: $620,000 for financial assistance and Veterans Treatment Court
