AUSTIN (KXAN) — The measuring stick will be put to use this weekend for No. 9 Texas. The Longhorns begin conference play at Florida after a bye week and their only dominating performance of the season against Sam Houston.
Although the Gators’ 1-3 record has dampened the hype surrounding the upcoming game against the Longhorns, Florida still holds the respect of Texas.
“I wouldn’t say they’re struggling,” linebacker Anthony Hill Jr said. “I’ve been watching their run game and some of the stuff they’ve been doing with that. They’re running the ball extremely well and (DJ) Lagway has made some plays in the passing game.”
Coming off back to back-to-back losses, the Gators have been outscored by an average of 10 points over their last three games. Florida suffered losses to South Florida, 18-16, LSU, 20-10, and Miami, 26-7. The Gators have the 51st-ranked rushing offense, averaging 180 yards per game.
“Try to eliminate the run first so we can eliminate the pass game,” safety Michael Taaffe said.
Similar to Texas quarterback Arch Manning, Florida’s DJ Lagway has been inconsistent in the passing game.

Lagway has thrown an interception in three out of four games. He’s thrown five touchdowns this season, while averaging 205 passing yards.
Manning exploded for 309 passing yards and three touchdowns in Texas’ last outing. A 55-0 win against Sam Houston on Sept. 20.
