AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Thursday, the Austin Independent School District said on Wednesday, the U.S. Marshals arrested Austin ISD Regional Custodial Specialist, Agustin Ibarra Lopez for a charge of indecency with a child.
The school district said, “At this time, we have no reason to believe that any Austin ISD students are involved in these charges.”
AISD said Lopez was a previous custodian at the following schools:
- Bowie High School during the 2016–2017 and 2017–2018 school years.
- Akins High School from 2018-2021.
- Mendez Middle School in 2022.
- Casey Elementary School in May 2022.
- Anderson High School during the 2023-2024 school year.
According to the press release, Lopez’s duties for his role included overseeing a team of campus head custodians in the northwest part of the district, which includes the schools listed. As part of his role, he would visit these campuses weekly.
AISD said its police department is actively working with the U.S. Marshals to determine if misconduct occurred at any AISD schools.
