AUSTIN (KXAN) — Drivers in south Austin can expect overnight lane closures on a portion of Interstate 35 for two nights this week.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, crews will close the southbound main lanes from Ben White Boulevard to Stassney Lane.
Weather permitting, this will happen on Friday, Sept. 26, from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m., and Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m., according to TxDOT.
“Road signs will be placed to alert drivers of the upcoming closures,” TxDOT said.
The agency said the closures will allow crews to “safely and efficiently” install steal beams for the I-35 Capital Express South Project, a $548 million plan to add two high-occupancy-vehicle lanes in each direction on I-35 between State Highway 71/Ben White Boulevard and State Highway 45 Southeast, according to the TxDOT website.
Detours
- From westbound SH 71/Ben White Boulevard: Drivers will take the northbound I-35 exit, then exit Oltorf Street and use the U-turn to access southbound I-35.
- From eastbound SH 71/Ben White Boulevard: Drivers will take the Congress Avenue exit ramp, continue to the I-35 frontage road and turn right.
