AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Pflugerville Independent School District Police Department is investigating an incident at Dessau Elementary on Tuesday after a student allegedly “displayed a knife and threatened other students and a staff member,” according to a letter sent home to families.
No students or staff were harmed from the incident, the letter said.
The elementary school acknowledged in the letter that staff were aware that a younger student brought two knives to school Tuesday. That student was “immediately stopped and removed from the classroom,” the letter said.
“I want to reassure you that no students or staff were physically harmed during this incident,” said Dessau Elementary Principal Daniela Guardiola. “Please know that the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority.”
According to the letter, the student accused of bringing a knife to school will face serious disciplinary consequences in accordance with district policy and state law. Additionally, that student will not return to the classroom until it is determined that the safety of all students and staff can be ensured.
“We recognize that incidents like this can be difficult for students to process. Our campus counselors are available to speak with students who may need additional support. If your child expresses concern or has questions, we encourage you to have an open conversation with them and reach out to us if you feel that they need further assistance,” Guardiola said.
