AUSTIN (KXAN) — According to multiple reports, all three Texas football rivalries games will be preserved as part of the new Southeastern Conference 9-game format set to begin in 2026-27.
The Longhorns will play Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Arkansas every season in SEC play for at least the next four years as part of the new format. The SEC is set to formally announce all of the teams’ annual opponents at 6 p.m. CT Tuesday on the SEC Network.

The Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma has been played 120 times since 1900 and has coincided with the State Fair of Texas at Cotton Bowl Stadium since 1929. The game is set for 2:30 p.m., Oct. 11.
The Lone Star Showdown against Texas A&M was revived when the Longhorns joined the SEC last season. Texas beat the Aggies 17-7 at Kyle Field, and DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium is hosting this year’s game at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 28, the regular season finale for both teams. The Longhorns have won nine of the last 12 matchups, and the schools first met in 1894. Last season was the 119th installment of the rivalry game.
The rivalry with Arkansas goes back to the programs’ Southwest Conference days, and hasn’t been regularly played until the Longhorns joined the SEC. The last time the teams regularly met was in 1991 when the Razorbacks moved to the SEC
This year’s game is set for Nov. 22 in Austin, with kickoff time yet to be determined. Texas won last year’s game in Fayetteville, 20-10.
The remaining six conference games will be filled on a rotating basis, the SEC announced earlier in August. Each school will face every other school in the conference at least once every two years and have home and away games with all schools every four years.
There’s also a requirement for SEC teams to play a “high-quality nonconference game,” whether it’s against a school from a Power Conference or Notre Dame.
