AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Southeastern Conference schedule is looming for No. 8 Texas. With one more dress rehearsal Saturday against Sam Houston State at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, the show has no choice but to go on.
The Longhorns clobbered the Bearkats 55-0, dominating every phase of the game. It’s what teams like Texas are supposed to do against teams from Group of Five conferences like Sam Houston State, but actually executing it on the field is an entirely different story. Just look at last week’s game against UTEP and you’ll understand the concept.
Arch Manning needed a big game to reset and get pointed in the right direction before he leads the offense into The Swamp against the Florida Gators on Oct. 4. He’ll have a bye week to help prepare, and after throwing for 309 yards on 18 of 21 passing with three touchdowns, he certainly has the feel for what he needs to do moving forward.
Running backs CJ Baxter and Quintrevion Wisner didn’t play for the Longhorns due to injuries, but Sarkisian is hopeful that they’ll be ready to go against the Gators. That will also help Manning feel more comfortable.
