AUSTIN (KXAN) — You won’t have to plan a trip to New York to get a taste of Saturday Night Live anymore if you live in Texas.
The Lorne Michaels Collection opens to the public at the Harry Ransom Center on the University of Texas campus, showcasing sketches, behind-the-scenes photography and rare materials from SNL’s 50-year history on Saturday.
While themed around SNL the exhibit encompasses Michaels’ whole career.
“This is very much the Lorne Michaels archive not the Saturday Night Live Archive,” said Steve Wilson who curated the exhibition. “He has had a remarkable career and an incredible impact on our culture.”
Michaels created SNL in 1975 and currently serves as the show’s executive producer.
“It is really interesting to see how someone like Lorne Michaels does things,” said Wilson. “How do they write a script, how do they comment on a script, how do they deal with production issues.”
Inside the exhibit you will find a number of documents, photos, costumes and much more.
“It’s a great resource for historians, social studies, as well as RTF down the street,” said Wilson.
The exhibit opens Sept. 20 and will be open until March 2026.
