AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Georgetown man was sentenced to 300 years in prison after a Williamson County jury convicted him Tuesday on six felony charges of possession of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM), according to a press release from the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday.

Daniel Bracamontez, 54, of Georgetown, had been arrested by the Georgetown Police Department in 2021.

According to the release, the case began with a “cyber tip” to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), a “national network of law enforcement dedicated to combating internet crimes against children.” That tip came from Google, which had detected the possible upload of CSAM to the internet.

Georgetown PD was notified and reviewed the suspected files; they confirmed the contents, according to the release.

“Further investigation revealed that the images were uploaded by two email addresses belonging to Bracamontez,” the release said. “In March 2021, officers executed a search warrant at Bracamontez’s residence, seizing over 20 electronic devices.”

His cell phone contained CSAM “depicting the sexual abuse of children as young as 3 years old.” A digital forensics expert with the Texas Rangers testified at the trial that the files were in “a hidden app” on the phone, the release said.

Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick called the verdict “an important step” in protecting children.

“The verdict … sends an unequivocal message: those who exploit and harm the most vulnerable members of our community will face severe and significant consequences,” he said. “Williamson County will not be a safe haven for these predators. My office will continue to seek justice for victims of these horrific crimes, and I am grateful for the diligent work and dedication of our law enforcement partners and prosecutors in bringing this case to a successful close.”

While he was sentenced to 60 years on each charge, Bracamontez will serve each consecutively. This means that once one 60-year term is up, he will start his time on the next 60 years.
