AUSTIN (KXAN) — Inks Lake will be lowered eight feet within an eight-week time span to give property owners a chance to work on their docks, boat slips and other shoreline maintenance, the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) said on Tuesday.
LCRA will slowly lower the lake by a foot a day starting Oct. 1, and according to the agency, it will be fully lowered by Oct. 9.
Refill of the lake will begin Nov. 24 and will be done by Nov. 28. According to LCRA, the water to refill Inks Lake will be released from Lake Buchanan and will cause Buchanan’s water to drop slightly less than three inches.
The agency said it has no plans to lower other pass-through lakes this year. However, the next opportunity for a routine drawdown will be next fall, and LCRA said it will make a decision on which lakes, if any, will be lowered next year based on the conditions at that time.
LCRA will release about 5,000 acre-feet of water through the hydroelectric generator at Inks Dam to lower the lake. The water released will be captured in Lake Travis, which will rise the lake’s water by 3.5 inches.
The last time Inks Lake was lowered was in 2020, LCRA said.
