AUSTIN (KXAN) — One of Austin’s iconic restaurants just celebrated 75 years of serving the city.
Rudy “Cisco” Cisneros opened Cisco’s in 1950 and on Sunday the restaurant held a party to celebrate the anniversary.
“There are so many stories encapsulated on these walls and people that knew my grandfather,” said Matt Cisneros, former owner and Rudy’s grandson.
Matt now runs the business with his partners Will Bridges and Bryan Schneider, who all grew up in Austin.
He says while the food has certainly brought people back over and over again, it’s also the welcoming atmosphere his grandfather brought to the restaurant.
“Austin wasn’t so inclusive back then and he kind of started that or pioneered that opportunity for people to come to a place that was impactful for them and him because he was such a personable person,” said Matt.
Over the years a lot of big names have walked through the doors, some first timers, but some kept coming back.
“Historically, the bigger names if you will, would be LBJ or Darrell Royal, Kevin Costner a ton of actors,” Matt said.
No matter who stopped by, “Cisco” always made them feel welcomed and that’s the way Matt said things are done to this day.
Cisco’s was recognized in 2019 as a historic landmark by the Austin Historic Landmark Commission.
