AUSTIN (KXAN) — Don’t let the rain stop you getting out this weekend as Dorothy makes a stop at Zach, a Bobcat Block Party in San Marcos, and a pool party for the pups! Plus, a music and film fest returns along with a roller derby championship you have to check out.
Weekend Forecast
Rain will dominate the weekend. Most of it remaining widely scattered as a front moves in Friday night giving us a better chance of rainfall and cooler temperatures as we move through Saturday and Sunday. We are giving Saturday a 40% chance of rain and Sunday a 50% chance of rain.
Wizard of Oz
Take a journey with Dorothy to Oz to meet the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. In this southern version of the show, Dorothy is wearing cowboy boots and there is plenty of music. The retelling of the classic story has kicked off at the Zach360 in the Topfer and runs through September 21. There are plenty of songs you will remember from the movie and a few new ones as well. The Front Festival
Four nights of independent music and film in Austin, The Front Festival returns Labor Day Weekend. Each day, venues across the city host a different aspect of the festival. Day 1 is the Opening Night Swim at The LINE Hotel. Day 2 is the Annual Music Showcase at Antone’s. Day 3 is the Annual Film Showcase at The Contemporary Austin featuring 12 films by women and LGBTQ+ directors and writers. Day 4 wraps up with the Labor Day Pool Party back at The LINE Hotel. Back the Bobcat Block Party
Texas State is finishing off its Spirit Week with its annual Back the Bobcat Block Party. Taking place on Friday August 29th from 6-10pm, North Street in San Marcos is shutting down as the community celebrates their maroon and gold team. Music, food, drinks, games and more, this is the event Texas State fans wait for each year. There will be performances by the Bobcat Band, Cheer, and Strutters along with a chance to meet Coach Kinne and the Bobcat Football Team. It’s an absolutely free event. Texas Roller Derby Finals
Lace up your roller-skates becasue the Calvello Cup Championship is here. The Cherry Bombs are taking on the Rhinestones in the final match of Texas Roller Derby. Taking place on Sunday August 31st at the Palmer Events Center, this is pinnacle of the season. Doors open at 5pm and the skates are on at 6. Kids 12 and under are free. Dog Days of Summer (Rancho Moonrise)
A pool party and plenty of food and drinks? Count me in! Dog Days of Summer Party at Rancho Moonrise is the perfect spot to say goodbye to meteorological summer.
