AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 43-year-old man arrested by U.S. Marshals on Aug. 21 faces a manslaughter charge in connection with the April 24 death of a woman, according to an arrest warrant affidavit from the Austin Police Department.
The suspect, Reginald Crosby, was previously convicted in 2003 for the aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to Travis County Court records. He was sentenced to eight years in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
In 2018, he pleaded guilty on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender. He was sentenced to two years in prison, court records said. He entered another guilty plea on a charge of attempted failure to register in 2024. For that, he was sentenced to 40 days in Travis County jail.
Just prior to his recent arrest, APD arrested Crosby in late May on a new charge of failing to register as a sex offender. KXAN reached out to his attorney in that case for comment.
According to APD, it was during that arrest in May that Crosby allegedly told detectives he and the victim, who was an intimate partner of his, had a fight on April 23. Crosby then told detectives that they “made up,” according to APD.
The victim died the day after that alleged fight. The Travis County Medical Examiner reported to APD that her death was caused by blunt trauma to the head, the affidavit said.
According to the affidavit, Crosby allegedly took a shower and made three phone calls prior to calling 911.
Crosby is currently held at the Travis County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
