The Old Dickey-Givens Community Center at 903 E Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. caught fire on June 29. The city of Taylor said the Taylor Fire Department responded to the building at about 8:25 a.m. that day.

The fire was controlled at about 10 a.m., but the “structure was deemed a total loss,” according to the city.

While investigators discovered human activity was involved, the city said the exact details remain undetermined. The investigation is now closed.

“While the cause of the fire cannot be definitively determined, the City remains committed to honoring the history of the site and working with the community to determine the best path forward for its future,” the city of Taylor said in a press release.

The city added the community center “served as an important gathering place for generations of Taylor residents.”

The Williamson County Fire Marshal’s Office, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Taylor Police Department supported the investigation, the city said.
