AUSTIN (KXAN) — Southwest Airlines will begin seasonal nonstop service between Austin and Omaha, Nebraska, in November, an airline spokesperson told KXAN.
The AUS-OMA route is currently operated by Allegiant Air, but that service is being cut, along with six other routes, as Allegiant trims options from Austin as part of a base closure. The airline has not said when flights will last operate, but the employee and aircraft base is set to close in January.
Southwest will fly the route on select Saturdays during November, December and January, as well as for a few weeks in February and March. The airline currently has schedules available through March 5, 2025.
The airline’s network planning team continues to make “dynamic changes to our schedule to meet customer demand and preferences,” an airline spokesperson told KXAN.
The Omaha route is Southwest’s third new nonstop from AUS so far this year. Service to San Juan, Puerto Rico, began in March, while service to Boston began in June. The airline has also canceled one route from Austin this year: flights to Cozumel, Mexico, ended earlier this month.
