Starlink satellite flickers over Central Texas Sunday

CENTRAL TEXAS (KXAN) — Some Central Texans witnessed some flickering lights in the sky late Sunday as a Starlink satellite passed over the area.

A KXAN viewer in Dale reached out around 10 p.m. Sunday after spotting the lights twinkling faintly in the sky. Starlink provides internet coverage to more than 70 countries and is a subsidiary of aerospace company SpaceX.

STARLINK RESOURCES: Satellites spotted above Central Texas

Historic coordinate data from online satellite tracking resource Find Starlink confirmed a Starlink satellite was visible around 9:32 p.m. Sunday evening in Dale.

The website also reveals when the satellites will next be visible to Central Texans. Those in the Austin region are expected to have good visibility of the satellites around 9:27 p.m. Monday night, with average visibility expected around 5:36 a.m. Tuesday morning.

With Find Starlink, users can search by city or by coordinates to see past and future results. The database assesses the satellite spottings by both the quality and length of visibility as well as which direction to look at it from.

Other online resources to spot Starlink satellites include the web browser and mobile app satellitemap.space, which uses data via the website space-track.org to highlight Starlink’s satellite locations.

It’s not the first time Starlink has been spotted in Central Texas. KXAN has spotlighted numerous occasions where the satellites were visible across various communities in the region.
