AUSTIN (KXAN) — The parents of professional cyclist Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson, who was shot and killed in Austin in 2022, have filed a wrongful death civil lawsuit against the woman convicted of killing her.

Jury finds Kaitlin Armstrong guilty of murdering Mo Wilson

In November 2023, a Travis County jury found Kaitlin Armstrong guilty of murder in Wilson’s death. Wilson was staying with a friend ahead of a gravel race when she was shot and killed on May 11, 2022.

Armstrong was sentenced to 90 years in prison.

KXAN reached out to an attorney previously representing Armstrong for details and a statement on this lawsuit. This story will be updated when we receive a response.

In the lawsuit, Eric and Karen Wilson requested $1,000,000 in damages after their daughter’s death caused mental anguish and resulted in the loss of care, support, maintenance and companionship.

“The loss of society and companionship representing the positive benefits flowing from the love, comfort, companionship and society that Plaintiffs Karen Wilson and Eric Wilson have suffered and would have, with reasonable probability, experienced if Anna Moriah Wilson had lived,” the lawsuit reads.

Additionally, they requested damages for the “pain and suffering and mental anguish sustained by Anna Moriah Wilson prior to her death” and all funeral and burial expenses, according to the lawsuit.

At Armstrong’s sentencing, Wilson’s family delivered emotional testimony on her behalf. Through tears, they discussed how kind and driven Wilson was – and how proud they were of how quickly she achieved her goal of becoming a professional cyclist.

The family launched a foundation in her honor with the mission of promoting “healthy living and community building by supporting organizations dedicated to expanding access to recreation, sports, and educational programs.”
