NEXSTAR (KIAH) — We did some digging and found some facts about July 4th that you might not know about.
The Declaration of Independence was actually voted on by the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776 and officially adopted two days later on July 4, 1776. At the time, John Adams believed that July 2, not July 4, would be the date remembered by history. We might celebrate our independence on a different day than Adams originally thought, but the way we celebrate hasn’t changed much. “Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”
