Round Rock ISD Approves Boundary Changes For Six Schools

The Round Rock Independent School District’s Board of Trustees approved boundary changes Thursday for six schools. The changes will affect students at Caraway, Elsa England, Herrington, Joe Lee Johnson and Teravista elementary schools and at C.D. Fulkes Middle School.

The board also approved adjusting feeder patterns – how students transition from elementary school into middle and high schools – for Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School and C.D. Fulkes Middle School.

Round Rock ISD has more than 50,000 students, making it the second largest school district in the metro area. The changes were proposed to address the district’s growth and overcrowding, ahead of the opening of new elementary school in fall 2021.

“In Round Rock ISD we are fortunate that our families love their neighborhood schools. And families love our District so much, they continue to move here to be part of our community,” Round Rock Board President Amy Weir said in a statement. “Our continued growth means we must make difficult decisions, but as a Board, we must consider what is in the interest of all students.”

The boundary changes will take effect in the fall semester.

Elementary No. 35 will be built in the Ryan’s Crossing neighborhood near Old Settlers Park in northeast Round Rock. The district said the new school will hold up to about 900 students and is expected to cost $48 million.
