Person taken to hospital after being rescued from storm drain in southwest Austin

SPICEWOOD, Texas (KXAN) — One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a crash on State Highway 71 Friday morning.

Authorities say the crash happened in western Travis County on SH 71 at Oscar Road, just west of the Pedernales River bridge and east of the Burnet/Travis County line.

ATCEMS said the person was pinned inside a vehicle, and crews were able to get the person out and fly them to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment. The person’s injuries aren’t expected to be life-threatening, medics said.

The Pedernales Fire Department also responded to the scene and worked to free the pinned-in person. Authorities want people to avoid the area while the scene is active, and traffic will be impacted for most of the day, the say.
