AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 4-year-old is in stable condition after the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said the child was shot Thursday night just outside the Round Rock city limits.
WCSO said on social media it responded around 9 p.m. to a 911 call claiming the child was shot at a residence located at 15450 FM 1325.
When deputies got to the scene, they found the child “suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.” WCSO said deputies provided medical aid until EMS arrived on the scene. The child was then taken to the hospital and “is currently in stable condition.”
WCSO said a person of interest was identified, “and investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.”
According to the sheriff’s office, this was an isolated incident. There is no ongoing threat to the public.
“Although this case remains under investigation, making a firearm accessible to a child is a crime. This tragic incident serves as a powerful reminder that firearm safety must always be a priority, especially when children are present,” WCSO Commander John Foster of the Criminal Investigations Division said.
Anyone who has information related to the case can call the WCSO tip line at 512-943-1311 or Williamson County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-253-7867.
