AUSTIN (KXAN) — Nineteen dogs living on a single property in Bastrop County were rescued Tuesday, according to the Austin Humane Society (AHS).
All of the dogs were then taken to the AHS shelter.
AHS said the dogs, which were all small mixed breeds, had been primarily living outdoors.
According to AHS, the dogs were between 3 months and 3 years old.
“[They] are suffering from flea infestations, internal parasites, skin, eye and ear infections, some of which appear to be chronic,” AHS said. “Their condition is likely due to general neglect at the property.”
The animal shelter said it would begin treatment for the dogs, which were undergoing medical and behavioral evaluations.
AHS said some of the dogs would soon be available for adoption. Inquiries can be made through AHS’s website, with fees ranging from $125 – $300 depending on the dog’s age.
“All of the dogs will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, treated for parasites and receive age-appropriate vaccinations before heading into their new homes,” AHS said.
The shelter said it worked with Bastrop County Animal Services to coordinate the rescues.
