AUSTIN (KXAN) — An 18-year-old died early Tuesday morning after he was allegedly shot by another teen, according to the Elgin Police Department.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Jefferson Cove around 3:30 a.m. in reference to someone with a gunshot wound. When officers arrived, they found Jowel Wallace dead in the residence, according to police.
Detectives with Elgin PD identified the suspect as 17-year-old Jayden Sherrod. He was charged with one count of murder, which is a first degree felony, police said. Sherrod was booked into the Bastrop County Jail. Police said there was no booking information available, as of Tuesday.
Elgin PD said this was an isolated incident, and there was no threat to the public.
This is now being investigated as Elgin’s second homicide of 2025, according to police.
