AUSTIN (KXAN) — As more people call Central Texas home, people are looking for ways to keep busy when they’re not at work. A new miniature golf experience that’s partnered with Tiger Woods is coming to northeast Austin, PopStroke.
“10 years ago this was all grass, there was cattle out here, there were overgrown weeds. Today it’s over 2.5 million square feet. We’ve got some of the largest companies in the world that occupy workspace here,” explained Mike McGlashan, vice president of acquisitions and development for Karlin Real Estate.
It’s no secret that growth is happening in northeast Austin.
“Thousands of multi-unit families came online in the last few years,” McGlashan said. “We’ve seen millions of square feet of workspace come online in the last five to 10 years, so it’s really a growing area.
The growth for both families and companies has lacked a close by area for people to hang out, grab food and relax.
“The Pitch was actually an evolution that started right as COVID began, which was an interesting time to open a retail concept,” McGlashan said.
And it’s changing again with the addition of PopStroke, its first location in Central Texas.
“It’s an immersive golf entertainment experience in which we connect and resonant across generations,” PopStroke CEO Greg Bartoli explained.
Consider it like mini-golf on steroids.
“If you’re a golf pro, or a scratch golfer, you can play the course the right way and read the lines, and understand the breaks and you can try to score a very low score,” Bartoli said.
Bartoli said he and his team have been eyeing the Austin market for awhile.
“[Austin is] a very dynamic kind of growth market,” Bartoli said. “Frankly, it’s a perfect fit for us at PopStroke when we open in September, but we’re also going to open in Cedar Park early next year.”
It’s a literal hole-in-one for the people that are moving here.
“Austin is not going to stop growing anytime soon and certainly this area won’t either,” McGlashan said.
The Pitch location, 13000 Harris Ridge Blvd., is expected to be open by mid-September. The Cedar Park location is right off Whitestone Boulevard and Toll Road 183A. It’s expected to open in February.
